Ranken Student Brings Home Gold at SkillsUSA 2010
(St. Louis, MO) On Thursday, June 24, Michael Ehrenstrom of Waterloo, Ill. represented Ranken Technical College at the national SkillsUSA Championships held in Kansas City, Mo. During the event, more than 5,600 career and technical education students competed in 96 different trade, technical and leadership contests. All contestants in the championships were winners at their regional and state levels.
Ehrenstrom competed in the Precision Machining Technology competition against 30 other participants and finished first in the post-secondary class, capturing Ranken’s first gold medal in this category.
“This is a really big accomplishment for this young man,” said Tom Ely, Precision Machining Technology department head at Ranken and a SkillsUSA faculty advisor. “This not only means that he is the best out of the 30 other students he competed against at nationals, but also the 1,000 others he competed against at the regional and state contests.”
Ehrenstrom graduated from Ranken this past May and is currently employed at Red Bud Industries in Red Bud, Ill.
The College has offered Ehrenstrom a $5,000 scholarship if he chooses to further his education.
